2008 Grant Recipients

For the 2008 fiscal year the Brookline Commission for the Arts awarded a total of over $10K to the following recipients:

Afternoon Concerts will perform two free classical music concerts at St Paul’s Church in the Spring and Fall of 2008.

Artbarn Community Theater, Inc.

This award specifically supports Artbarn’s after school program for K-6th graders in literacy and the theater arts.

Split Hares Traveling Troupe Theater $1,000

 

 

Brookline Arts Center

Over the course of five months, the BAC will bring together emerging artists (who exhibit, teach, and volunteer) to serve as mentors to aspiring, newer artists and to share inspiration and ideas. The project also provides opportunities for exhibition of art work created through this collaborative program.

Artist NOW Exhibition and Panel Multi-disciplinary $750

 

 

Richard Clark

Mr. Clark will present a dramatic interpretation of memorable moments in Shakespearean literature at the Brookline Senior Center.

Coolidge Corner Community Chorus

The CCCC will hold a concert in Spring 2008 of classical and Bulgarian folk songs, which is open to the public. These funds specifically provide funds for increased musical accompaniment.

Bette Ann Libby

Ms. Libby will exhibit 12 large mosaic panels as part of a town-wide recycling awareness initiative at various locations around the Town of Brookline. These panels were created with help from volunteers from the community and originally exhibited outside Town Hall during 2007 Open Studios.

Performing Artists at Lincoln School

Funds will be used to expand the PALS audiences by scheduling free rehearsal performances at area senior centers. The money would be used for transportation, a videographer and photographer. www.palschildrenschorus.org

Puppet Showplace, Inc.

To accompany special performances, the Puppet Showplace Theatre will celebrate the National Day of Puppetry with free puppetry workshops and activities for families. Children participating will get to take home puppet created during that day.

John Root

This concert at the Brookline Senior Center will feature music from the Gaslight Era (1890 – 1920) on piano.

Wendy Soneson

Ms. Soneson will paint portraits of 20 influential women from within Brookline Community. The final paintings will be exhibited at the Brookline Arts Center along with written and video narrative in Fall 2008.

Brookline Women Visual Arts $500

 

 

Studios Without Walls

For six weeks this year, Studio Without Walls will create site-specific installations of art and sculpture in Brookline Coolidge Corner Library.
